National Gallery Friday Late: The Women of After-Impressionism

  • National Gallery Trafalgar Square London, England United Kingdom (map)

Friday Lates: Drop-in life drawing- Originary Arts x After Impressionism: 2 free sessions, 6.15-7pm & 7.15-8pm (free but wristband required)

Join artist Nikki Shaill and creative company Originary Arts for an evening of life drawing inspired by the colour, form and experimentation of Post-Impressionist artworks.

Explore and experiment with your own expressive mark making at our drawing event presented by Originary Arts. Play with pattern, colour and line using pens, pencil and paper, taking inspiration from costumed models and props, whose poses take their cues from our exhibition 'After Impressionism: Inventing Modern Art'.

Tableaux will showcase the colour palettes, sculptural forms and themes of these paintings, with particular focus on the women artists and figures portrayed of the time, including Sonia Delaunay’s paintings and Camille Claudel’s sculptures. Bringing to life some of the artworks and conjuring up the playful spirit and vibrancy of the exhibition, Originary Arts will guide you through making your own sketches, portraits and doodles, whatever your level of ability.

A soundtrack of recorded music will be playing throughout this event, at a low level, but feel free to bring your own headphones or ear plugs if you would like to.

Stools are provided, as well as floor seating. There is space for wheelchair users.

Limited materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook and pencils.

The workshop is repeated twice on the evening. You may attend one session only. Please pick up a wristband in the room from 5.45 pm to secure your entry to a session. Free sessions
