BRIGHTENING UP BRIGHTON // WINNING WINDOW COMMISSION FOR BRILLIANT BRIGHTON & BRIGHTON and HOVE CITY COUNCIL // MAY 2021

Nikki Shaill was delighted to be selected as the first commissioned Brightening up Brighton project artist. Chosen from over 80 applications to an open brief to brighten up an empty shop window in the Lanes, Brighton, Nikki’s window art created in Posca pen and paper mobiles was a playful and bright tribute to the shapes, colours and sights associated with Brighton. From seagulls stealing chips to the Pavilion, hag stones to a cheeky little self portrait swimming. Installed for 6 weeks we loved seeing this double front window being enjoyed by passers by of all ages. Photos (c) Brilliant Brighton/Sarah London Photography

ORIGINARY ARTS LAUNCH PARTY & WINDOW ART BY NIKKI SHAILL @ GREAT ART, SHOREDITCH / 22 FEBRUARY 2020 / To celebrate our launch, we threw an Arty Party for all ages at sponsors GreatArt! Friends old and new of our creative company joined in doodling games, decorating paper cups to enjoy drinks, vegan snacks and paper mask/cape and party hat making! We drew and used stickers to make self portraits inspired by artist from Kusama to Matisse. Nikki Shaill unveiled the finished window art design, created with local families during a half term workshop assisted by Florence Goodhand-Tait. So much colour and shape! We had a lot of fun. Even dogs joined in the party too! Photos (c) OriginaryArts/SianCarousel

THE PAPER THEATRE PARADE: RA LATE event that Originary Arts designed and installed at Royal Academy of Arts. Part of the Picasso and Paper programme. January 2020. Participants created props, instruments, masks and costumes for our two performers- made entirely from paper and cardboard! Inspired by the ballet PARADE that Picasso was part of, as featured in the exhibition, along with Picasso’s paper collages and studies of travelling circuses.

TATE LATE: INSTALLATION AND THE PAPER THEATRE in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, 2019. Inspired by the Natalia Goncharova’s Russian art exhibition, Originary Arts created a paper theatre installation which people of all ages could contribute to. Adding their own paper and card colourful designs, whether Russian motifs of flowers and crowns, firebirds and Ballet Russe inspired imaginative symbols. Featuring model-performers Roy Butler and Sian Carousel, allowing themselves to be covered head to toe in the imaginative paper creations and parading down the catwalk!
