PLAY PACKS

CULTURE MILE, 2020/2021

During the lockdown during Covid 19 in Spring 2020, Originary Arts were delighted to be invited to contribute some ideas and play prompts to these Play Packs by Culture Mile. The Play Packs were distributed free to families in the borough of Islington, along with craft and creative supplies.

Our play ideas were featured in these play packs for May and June. Other partners featured include Museum of London, Barbican, Islington Play and Guildhall Music. Our prompts also appear on billboards around Barbican centre.

PAPER THEATRE INSTALLATIOn

ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS, RA LATE- theatrical life drawing event for adults, on stage in the main foyer of Royal Academy of Arts, London. Paper set and costumes created inspired by historic court designs and theatrical performances of the period. Two live performer-models posing and participants invited to create paper props to add to the scene as the event went on, from swords to wigs and hair made from paper.

FESTIVAL OF FAIRYTALES

GARDEN MUSEUM, AUGUST 2022 & 2023

Curated creative participation activities for families attending the Festival of Fairytales event at Garden Museum, Lambeth. Facilitated arts workshops for ages 4 upwards and their families to take part in - collage, costume making, mask making and sculptural prop making with paper, stickers and card. Performative moments to inspire making led by in character facilitators and leading to The Ugly Bug Parade around the museum. Programmed a series of walkabout bug character performers too to interact with participants. Inspired by different cultural fairytales and folk tales linked to nature and insects.

TaTE LATE: TAUBER-ARP

TATE MODERN, 2022

Inspired by Sophie Tauber-Arp’s marionettes and puppets featured in Tate’s exhibition, Originary Arts created life-size uncanny puppet characters that danced and moved to music whilst drawn by audiences of all ages at the free Tate Late event. Costume and props created by Nikki Shaill.

THEATRICAL LIFE DRAWING

RA LATES, 2015-2020

Costumed characters curated and set design created, alongside theatrical narratives including music and poetry, to inspire life drawing and imaginative mark making at RA Lates for adult audiences. Themes included Circus, Manhattan, Cosmic Ocean. Carnival, Vienna, Night Garden and many more inspired by the RA’s current exhibition programmes.

INTERGENERATION GAME

AGEING WELL/LITTLE GREEN PIG COMMISSION

Co-designed a set of question and prompt cards with children from Brighton After School clubs, as part of Ageing Well festival 2023. Card game designed to be played with different age groups to spark conversation about play, memory and games. Questions and designs created alongside children in a series of workshops and visits from heritage experts from Brighton and Hove Museum.
