  • National Gallery Trafalgar Square London, England United Kingdom (map)

Festive folklore sketching and song

Join Originary Arts for a magical evening of theatrical life drawing and live singing by Assamiya, inspired by festive folklore at National Gallery’s Friday Late free Life Drawing. Room 32 at National Gallery, with 2 sessions 6.15 - 7 pm & 7.30 - 8.15 pm on Friday 16 December 2022.

Join Originary Arts for a magical evening of theatrical life drawing and live singing by Assamiya, inspired by festive folklore.

Come and sketch a model whose costume is inspired by imagery of pagan goddesses, winter witches, snow queens and deities of December. There'll be glittering gold to capture in your drawings, movement, stillness, plus moments of live singing from Assamiya.

Everyone is welcome to join us, no matter your drawing confidence, at these two inclusive workshops, to experiment with mark-making and sketching. Materials will be provided for those who need them, including drawing boards, paper and pencils.

Feel free to bring your own sketchbook and dry drawing materials too (no photography, paint or wet materials).

Assamiya

Hailed by The Independent for her 'refined artistry' as an opera singer, Assamiya is a celebrated and experienced cross-genre vocal artist. The warp and weft of her singing tapestry include threads ranging from the angelic realms of classical choral music to the earthy notes of Britain’s folk tradition. In addition to her career as a performer, Assamiya writes her own songs and facilitates weekly Song Medicine sessions for South East London-based singing community, Heart Song Collective.

Assamiya will be bringing festive song from solstice lullabies to atmospheric festive folk.
