BRIGHTENING UP BRIGHTON: WINDOW ART IN THE LANES

  • Market Street Brighton Sussex United Kingdom (map)

The Brightening Up Brighton brief was a really fun one! Can you spot our window art in the Lanes? As if Brighton our home city needed any more colour, Nikki Shaill has taken over an empty shop window in The Lanes and filled it with her signature primary coloured geometric shapes and colour! A really exciting Originary Arts window art commission can currently be viewed on Market Street in Brighton’s Lanes. Nikki was thrilled to win this artist commission after entering the Brilliant Brighton and Brighton and Hove City Council partnership open call. One of five artists selected to transform an empty shop window temporarily.

Originary Arts’ design is inspired by the iconic sights, shapes and symbols of Brighton itself. Nikki asked locals to name their favourite sights, smells, memories and places - the colours and landmarks they love the most. So Nikki has abstracted elements of this seaside city from doughnuts to seagulls stealing chips, pebbled beaches with lucky hag stones to Brighton’s domed architecture, smiling sea swimmers to colourful bunting. Bauhaus inspired colours and shapes and a playful sense of humour. Tag us and share photos if you spot the artwork!
